One of my biggest fears while preparing for this Triathlon was that I might train really hard and get in good condition for the event only to immediately fall off the fitness wagon and return to my old state of flabbiness. I knew slacking off the week following the event could set the stage for that possibility. So, I woke up early on Monday morning (still tired and sore from Saturday) and begrudgingly jumped on my bicycle and rode 20 miles up Springville Canyon just to prove to the gods of fat that I wasn't going to worship them just yet. Then on Tuesday I ran six miles, Wednesday I rested and Thursday did another 6. On Saturday, in the heat of the Nevada desert, I did my fourth workout for the week; 6 miles at 6 am (it was still 95+ degrees!).
My week has not been a total success, however. Being on vacation, I have not been too diligent on my usual dietary constraints. Let's just say that I pretty much threw discretion to the wind and over-ate. I had tons of candy, huge high-caloric meals and unhealthy snacks all throughout the week. Not good for someone preparing for another triathlon. I'm not gonna let it discourage me though. I remain resolute to get back on track next week when I return home and get back in to my usual diet and workout regiment.
Stay tuned.....
